The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

"Open your eyes. Open your eyes! Wake up Link!"
~Princess Zelda

I have to admit Nintendo has a hit coming with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Finally we have an adult link game which means there will be some hardcore action going down for our protagonist Link.

From the trailer, looks like there will be a lot of opportunity to take advantage of the open world environment to slay enemies such as dropping rocks, setting grasslands on fire and hang gliding to new areas.  I also so a mysterious stone called the Sheikah Slate on Link's side that looks like it has magical properties to create blocks and entrances.  In the past, Link made use of words and magic but this time the developer wanted to add a new wrinkle in the Zelda franchise with the use of technology.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is really a change in pace from what the franchise was known for, but I feel this time around Nintendo is really trying to adapt to the new expectations gamers have for top performing games.

Features:
  • Explore the wilds of Hyrule any way you like - Climb up towers and mountain peaks in search of new destinations, then set your own path to get there and plunge into the wilderness. Along the way, you'll battle towering enemies, hunt wild beasts and gather ingredients for the food and elixirs you'll need to sustain you on your journey.
  • More than 100 Shrines of Trials to discover and explore - Shrines dot the landscape, waiting to be discovered in any order you want. Search for them in various ways, and solve a variety of puzzles inside. Work your way through the traps and devices inside to earn special items and other rewards that will help you on your adventure.
  • Be prepared and properly equipped - With an entire world waiting to be explored, you'll need a variety of outfits and gear to reach every corner. You may need to bundle up with warmer clothes or change into something better suited to the desert heat. Some clothing even has special effects that, for example, can make you faster and stealthier.
  • Battling enemies requires strategy - The world is inhabited with enemies of all shapes and sizes. Each one has its own attack method and weaponry, so you must think quickly and develop the right strategies to defeat them.
  • amiibo compatibility - Tap the Wolf Link amiibo (sold separately) to make Wolf Link appear in game. Wolf Link will attack enemies on his own and help you find items you're searching for. We will also introduce new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild series of amiibo at E3 this year.

Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour E3

In honor of Resident Evil 20th year anniversary, Capcom treated us to a like teaser gameplay for Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour.

Seems like this installment will center around some cult called the "The Family". In the trailer, you will have to escape imprisonment in their abandoned home.  In the beginning, you are watching a video of the previous victims/prisoners, and now you are the new prisoner.

A first for Resident Evil, you play in first-person and as a character who is absolutely weaponless. Comparisons will definitely be made to survival horror franchises likeAmnesia or Outlast, although the overall feel of the demo was definitely more akin to Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s P.T. demo. In fact, that demo is The Beginning Hour’s most obvious influence, which would normally put it in sort of an awkward position if it weren’t for the fact that both Silent Hills and Allison Road have been canceled. Resident Evil 7, on the other hand, has the best chance of finally delivering the experience teased in P.T.

There seems like there will be a lot of puzzle solving and jump scares to keep you on your toes. I fell like the days of the hack and slash or Hollywood run and gun resident evils are done. Seem like developers took note of the fans saying the game got too cheesy and copied too much of MW 3rd person zombie stuff.  Resident Evil 7 will be out for XBO, PS4, and PC, and will be fully playable in VR on Jan. 24, 2017.

Dead Rising 4 and E3 2016

I can't believe E3 is here already!  I guess with tv shows like xplay and stuff being cancelled, there isn't a lot of gaming news and hype around the event.  One particular game that I can't wait to get my hands on is Dead Rising 4.

I'm liking the return of our survivalist reporter Frank West as the main character.  There was downloadable content in Dead Rising 3 to play as Frank West, but it's not the same as having a whole game to yourself with a pioneer.

It looks like the game will take place around Christmas in the town of Willamette.  Not information has been provided on the story or why Frank West is rampaging on zombies here, but I like the elemental gadgets and tricked out vehicles that I saw in the trailer.  It looks like there will be an emphasis on crafting like in Dead Rising 3.  I'm hoping we get more content this time around because I blew through Dead Rising 3 in a weekend.

Dead Rising 4 is expected to be release around Christmas time on December 6, 2016.

Uncharted 4: Game of the Year by Far

"Whoa...look at that. There's your treasure.  Goddamn, was it worth it?"
"Everyone obsessed with this treasure, gets what they deserve"

I had to admit Uncharted 3 developers really disappointed with its artistic approach, but Uncharted 4 respected the process and made a high quality game. I mean this game brought it!  You even can play the PS1 classic game, Crash Bandicoot. Uncharted 4 really got in depth the with the story revolving around trust, family, mercenaries, and treasure hunting.

Uncharted 4 focused on Drake learning his choices had an effect on others or questioned what he really was doing with his life, and why.  For Drake, the path of a treasure hunter, gaining wealth and fame had been shadowed by a rich benefactor who believed his lack of success was because of Drake's acts and double dealing.

Come on Legend!
The game-play matches the story-line from prison brawls with racist gang members to sword fights with ivy league pricks that think the world revolves around their money and philanthropy. Underneath all the bravado, Nathan Drake's enemies were sad little haters with delusion of grandeur.

I really felt in touch with Drake.  In Uncharted 4, Drake is an innocent man that gets in over his head a lot!  In this game, we get to see Drake's brother Sam, who is the man that got Drake involved with treasure hunting and thrill seeking.  We see a genuine brotherly love with Drake and Sam, as we discover Drake was trying his hardest to impress and be like his brother who he had to leave behind.

I'm in it for the Real Thing Sister
The focus of this Uncharted 4 centers around a strange feeling of emptiness from hunting treasure. There is a lot of life lessons to be learned.  Sometimes you have to choose between what you want to keep and let go.  This game brought out all the game changer necessities to set it apart from what else is on the market for 2016.  Uncharted 4 is full of innovation for a platformer from driving through the streets of Brazil in a car chase to boat races in South America.  You literally travel the world, get emerged in different cultures and art while learning history and discovering the value others have in their relics or treasure.  I'm hooked on it.

Land a Contract or Something?
This game is one big adrenaline rush to the other compared to a normal life with a family and love. Nathan Drake and Elena's romance is full on but it's not enough to stop Drake from his bad habits. Taking contracts is the focus of the game mixed with a legit hatred from a past murder and betrayal that must be resolved.

Was it worth it?
What happened to living a normal life?  I live Vicariously through Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4. Elena words "just say the word, and I will call everything off" really made me feel guilt and realize nothing worth while was easy.  I love this game.  The game play is unbelievable and the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat.  I give Uncharted 4 at 10 out of 10.

Doom 4 Review

"He cannot be allowed to leave this place!  He will ruin everything!"

Let's get this out the way...if you were expecting innovative gameplay and sappy romantic in-depth storylines, then you are playing the wrong game.  If you're all about killing demons, and going berserk in chaotic world that wants you died, then you found you're calling.  Well let's say Doom 4 is a demon of its own instead a reboot of a loved video game series.

Revival of the Franchise

The trick to rebooting a great video game series is to rediscover its context. Bringing back specific mechanics or systems is pointless in itself, like applying lipstick and blusher to rotten flesh; instead, designers must treat on the old title in broader terms, looking at what made it special for the era and seeking to replicate those emotions, that sensibility, with today's tools and in today's climate.

Doom 4 is a catch 22 in many aspects.  It wants to sample all aspects of the boxes associated with a modern story-heavy shooter campaign in the Bioshock vein - holographic echoes of now-butchered people fiddling around with ancient artifacts, upgradeable gear, weapon select wheels and a lore database intent on sapping all enthusiasm for the gorgeous weapons by explaining them to death.  On the other hand, it disappoints from what I expected to see and experience.  The game play is really dated and seems like a Halo 4 on Xbox 360 more than and new-gen game.

The core components of the 1993 game's appeal are its maps, or rather, dungeons - shifting Stygian warrens of flesh and bulkhead, in which no chamber is without its fair share of false walls, trick floors, mysterious switches, teleport pads and out-of-reach power-ups.
The 2016 version clearly gets this, though it has yet to really surprise me. While compact by current genre standards, the first few campaign maps are agreeably knotty, with all sorts of secrets visible on walkways or dropped invitingly behind malfunctioning doors.
Innovations
The demons have more spring in their step, too.  Another new addition is the possessed sentry, a former human elite who rocks a handheld energy shield and shotgun - distressing indeed when you're backed into a corner. In general, there's a nice sense of layering to the encounter design, with bog-standard zombies who shamble towards you slowly but steadily while you're preoccupied with more eye-catching threats.
The game's "Glory Kills" melee execution system has attracted the ire of purists - this lets you polish off a weakened, flashing foe in spectacular style with a single button press, showering you in Stimpacks to boot. It certainly sounds like a banal cosmetic flourish, but actually serves a function similar to Bloodborne's rallying, whereby you'll often need to risk close quarters combat if you want to heal up. There's a similar touch of risk-and-reward to managing ammo reserves - you can masticate opponents with a chainsaw to refill your weapons, which again entails putting yourself in harm's way. Later levels will really force you to dig into these systems, in addition to each weapon's alternate fire and the environment.
Overall
I have not played the multiplayer that much because it's not my thing, but I would say the campaign is worth a playthrough or rental if possible.  Honestly, it's not going to win game of the year, but Doom 4 has it's moment.  I must say with Bethesda reputation for quality and innovation, I was really disappointment with the results of Doom 4.  It's 7 out of 10 for me.  I might change my mind in increase the score if the multiplayer turns out to be good and competitive.

Prince died at 57

Wow!  I mean I literally saw him at an event a few months ago joking with Kevin Hart. Prince has been found dead. Cause of death has yet to be revealed, but he was reportedly been suffering from the flu last week.  Prince was 57.

Prince once explained the meaning of "Purple Rain" is as follows: "When there's blood in the sky - red and blue= purple... purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain."

Fallout 4 Automatron DLC - Brainscratching Mechanist Lore

Fallout 4: Automatron is really fun and worth a try if you're into modifications.  It's all about following a quest line revolved around raider/scientist wars with Modified robot guardians.  You meet a new robot companion named Ada, and she is smart but a smartass as well.

Ada will ask for you help in her quest for revenge and journey to solve mysteries her deceased friends could not accomplish in their lifetime.  General Atomics robobrains had unhinged programming results with gave robots personality and will to survive as through they were human brains in robots bodies. The story is unique, and it evolves as you progress in the quest.  The answer to my prayers for Fallout were solved with the option to have a Robot War!  My new hobby in the game is hunting every robot enemy and looting its parts to empower my monster robot guardian. #salvage

I cannot stress this more, Modifying Ada is your main objective.  Be sure to upgrade your science and armor perks before you try this DLC. You can try to speed through the DLC quest line if you have a high level, but you will really miss the point of the Automatron DLC all together.

If you have Curie and Codsworth, then you can modify them as well with the robotics parts you salvage from your defeated foes.  Be sure to get the supply line perk to access your inventory because the robot parts are heavy in weight and you will waste a lot of time transferring your loot.  This DLC is all about robotics modifications.

Lore - The Mechanist
What's interesting here is the mention of the Mechanist, and how he's made out to be the villain. As everyone knows, he made his first appearance in Fallout 3, having a rivalry with the AntAgonizer.

Basically, the description raises a lot of questions. For one, he was sold off at the ripe age of 15 to a caravan merchant and settled down in the Canterbury Commons a few years after, so how did he end up in Boston? Perhaps he got on another caravan and traveled between games.

The other noodle-scratcher here is why is he a villain? After all, he did become the Mechanist to protect the town against the AntAgonizer. However, there's a slim chance that he just had a change of heart, or maybe this is a completely different Mechanist.

Lastly, the Mechanist is in The Superhuman Gambit quest in Fallout 3, and in that scenario, he asks the player to take on the role of a superhero in the guise of the Awesome-Claw, Super Humongous, Shadow Bite or Brilliant Shadow. Could the Automatron DLC have something along those lines as well?

Achievements
1. Robot Hunter

2. The Most Toys

3. Headhunting

4. Mechanical Menace

5. Restoring Order

If these names make it through the drawing board, then they fit right in with the "Robots, Robots and More Robots!" description of Automatron.

The requirements to complete these achievements have also confirmed at least three quests: Headhunting, Mechanical Menace and Restoring Order. Needless to say, the deeds that they're referring to are fairly straightforward.

As for The Most Toys and Robot Hunter, they can be accomplished by building 10 robot mods and unlocking 10 robot mods respectively.

Conclusion
It's not rocket science as some of my peers like to say, but it's $10 and fun.  I enjoyed playing this DLC, and if you are a fan of robot builds or Fallout, then you will enjoy this new addition as well. I score Fallout 4: Automatron a 10 out 10 for me.  I cannot stress how much fun I had with this new addition to the fold.  I can't wait to see what new dynamics the next DLC, Wasteland Workshop will add to Fallout 4.

7 Days to Die + Walking Dead + Xbox One + PS4

Big News!  7 Days to Die is heading to the Xbox One and PlayStation! In conjunction with TellTale games and Fun Pimps, a new console version of 7 Days to Die will give gaming fans who do not have a good computer with high speed processors or graphics the opportunity to play and join the survivalist community.

Fans who pre-order the game you will have the opportunity to download 5 character skins from Telltale's The Walking Dead Series including Lee Everett and Michonne.  There will be a hard-disk version of the game as well as a downloadable version as well.

The console version will be available in June 2016 selling at $30 on $29.99.  I'm not sure what Alpha it will be. I doubt the Fun Pimps will release a new Alpha 15.0, so expect a polish version of Alpha 14.0.

The console version will support a multi-player split screen mode, plus additional mode will be announced as they become available.  There will be different kinds of animals and meats as well.

For my fans that do not know about the game, 7 Days to Die is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. Telltale describes the title as an open-world survival game that combines first-person shooting, survival horror, tower defense, crafting and role-playing elements.

I didn't think this would happening since 7 Days to Die is a niche underground game.  I'm shocked and excited about this.  It makes sense because the Fun Pimps work hard and want to make a lot of money for their efforts.  For those of you who don't have good computers, welcome to the fold. Enjoy!

Negan Identity Revealed for Walking Dead Season Finale

Well, I will admit I don't read comic books, lol.  I followed the Walking Dead TV show, and I believed the storyline was exactly as it should be.  I found out I was wrong. It a similar scenario from Game of Thrones, meaning the TV series took creative license with the franchise to stretch the longevity of favorite characters and not show graphic violence that made the comic book famous enough to get a TV. Looks like there was a lot of stuff the show chose to edit to pass censorship and get on air.  I spent all weekend researching the differences that happened in the comic book and didn't happened on TV.

Well here is a big reveal.  On today's season finale we will see that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast as Negan.  Two weeks ago when one of Negan's crew said we all are Negan, they lied. Turns out that Negan is the leader of the Saviors. The Saviors are a group of violent survivors based at a place called The Sanctuary, which is in the same general area as the Alexandria Safe-Zone, Hilltop Colony and The Kingdom, which are survivor communities in the Washington, D.C. region.

The Sanctuary is a factory and it was first teased in AMC's poster for the second half of Season 5. Negan and The Saviors rule by fear, they demand supplies and rations in exchange for killing walkers outside of Hilltop. Rick and members of all three communities eventually team up to fight The Saviors in what's called "All Out War."

From what I read, Negan has a potty mouth and he is on a level of salvage evil unseen before in the Walking Dead comic series.  When asked how he compared to the Governor, who was the previous main villain of Rick's group here is what was said by fans:

“Where the Governor was a great [villain] he had some weakness that Rick could've exploited. The Governor was often irrational and made mistakes that ultimately let Rick's crew have breathing room and escape. He was much more amateur

Negan has a weird obsession with Rick's son, Carl Grimes. Negan expresses that Carl is a younger dark version of himself.  As comic fans stated, Carl in the comics is way different from Carl on the TV show. Research it to learn more.

Negan is much more professional and ruthless. Ruling by fear with his camp/gang following him for the most part with out question. Negan is also cold calculating behind his crude ruthless exterior and doesn't make dumb mistakes. In fact he is more likely to take advantage of others mistakes than to make his own.

His group of people is a mixture of biker gang and psycho cult. Negan is so powerful because of ruling with fear that Rick can never overcome him with direct force but he eventually finds a way and the story arc follows this with the glimmers of rebuilding society because of it.

In the end Rick realizes to counter the fear that Negan is using. He needs trust and cooperation, something that Negan is impossible to make use of. You see by ruling with fear means you can never trust the people you've subjected. The whole arc is kinda a demonstration of the values of leading by fear or love i.e. trust.

I think the only mistake Negan made was that he pushed people too far. He does things that people can never forgive or forget.”
