Developers at Rocksteady did not
disappoint with Batman: Arkham City. From
the beginning, you are in full control of Batman and his many gadgets. You are
free to roam and investigate the tough thug filled streets, roof tops and
alleys even “Crime Alley” the place where journey for Bruce Wayne to Batman all began.
Batman: Arkham City places you in an
open world that is five times as big as to explore as Batman: Arkham Asylum
with a main story line that creates a sense of urgency that is hard to take
your attention away from.
Developers took note of their
weaknesses and strengths from the previous game and made the needed changes to
capture that feeling of being Batman. Detective
mode has been re-invented, instead of a crutch to navigate the gamer. Detective
mode is use plot more effective and stealthy attacks against enemies. On
combat, it's easier to use quick attacks mixed with gadgets to string together
ridiculously satisfying combos.
A big plus is the same combat system
as well as gadgets from Arkham Asylum are incorporated into the sequel. Favorites
like the exploding gels are back and new ornaments like the remote electric
charge make a welcoming improvement to our utility belt. Gliding thru the city
and using the bat-claw are simply and fun with smooth and intuitive controls.
The main narrative is stretched a
little by random side missions and lack of continuity that comes from choosing
to help political prisoners over kicking Mr. Freeze cold ass, but that is your
choice and I love that. This game mastered making you feel and act like batman
and gives you options of objectives and plot points to complete instead of a
linear progression from level to level in Batman:Arkham Asylum.
The Cat-woman DLC portions of the
game is streamlined and integrated flawlessly into the main storyline with a
subtle ease that doesn't seem out of place like in other games.
Batman Arkham City is filled with perfect visuals, amazing gameplay, and a fantastic story. It lived up to the expectations Arkham Asylum created. It delivers everything the first game had and more. It expanded ideas crafted in the first game, and made then better. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel with the game. It focused on it strengths and gave a can't miss sequel. Overall, I give it a rare 10/10.
FOR THE SECRET: This came from Ray
Segal at Mediacows. There are two clues to what the next plot will involve
after you beat the game. The first clue comes at the end credits when Harley
Quinn sings a lullaby. "Hush, little baby don't say a word mama's going to
kill for you the world damn world."
Just like in Batman: Arkham Asylum you found a clue in
Quincy Sharp's, the warden, office about blueprints to Arkham City there is a
hint to what the next game will involve. The second clue comes from going into
the room where you first met the Joker and Harley Quinn. Next to Harley's
outfit is a pregnancy test that says positive. Collect the evidence and the
outcome is for you to decide detective.
