Review: Resistance 3 With a Prayer Our Hero Delivers Big Time

Resistance 3 is a welcomed revisit to a 'new world' of RPG/Action Shooters.  If you're a fan of  Insomniac Games' Resistance series then you have noticed that every game was designed differently because the developers never quite got it right until now!
In 2006, Resistance was one of the few launching titles for PS3. It had no rivals, and it was in a league of its own.  In 2008, Resistance 2 was released with a larger competitive market and higher expectations, but despite critical success sales for the game were slow.

Resistance 3  resets the series and pulls ahead of the action/shooter/rpg genre.   Resistance 3 puts you in the aftermath of the events of Resistance 3.  We begin the game with Nathan Hale, the protagonist from Resistance 1 & 2 being shot in the face by Joe Capelli, the poster boy for Resistance 3.

As a result of the turn in events of Resistance 2, humanity is almost extinct in the harsh and bleak world. Humanity's last hope rest in Joe Capelli, an outcast/uncrowned hero that in some eyes saved the world and in others ruined all that was sacred.  With a loving plea from his wife, Joe travels to New York in order to save the Earth before it is pulled into another dimension or lost to the permanent winter the dimensional rip has caused. In earlier titles the Chimera were an endangered species, and they were transforming humans in order to survive.  This time around the Chimera are infinite and dead set on a genocide of humanity.
Resistance 3 is filled with a suspense filled storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.  But a good story is nothing without great gameplay, and Resistance 3 delivers. The weapon wheel is loaded with a superb array of guns including the Freezebeam, Mutator, Rossmore, and Atomizer. The heartland of Resistance 3 1950s America is crawling with life that is trying to end yours, and upgrading weapons are an necessity not a benefit.  Resistance 3 single player mode is solid, and it has proven it belongs on the list of best games with Gears of War and Call of Duty in 2011.
Resistance 3 multiplayer has cut back on the number of players that can play at a time, and it is only supporting an 8 on 8, 16 player max which will take fans by surprise because the series has been known for its massive multiplayer wars. It's a tighter experience, and players can choose where and how to fight.  Based on how many players are in the arena, mini missions are created to limit chaos and  prevents degeneration into a random hide and shot online experience.

Resistance 3 captured its stride and displays the confidence and strength needed to be something special and company saving game all on its own.  The last five minutes of the game is a metaphor for the fighting spirit of the Resistance series, and it is a can't miss moment.  I highly recommend Resistance 3, and I give it an overall 7/10
