LucasArts is finally giving fans a first look at the next step for the Star Wars series in video games with the formal announcement of the bounty hunter-focused Star Wars 1313. The third-person action game will follow an as-yet-unnamed bounty hunter on the planet Coruscant as he tracks wanted individuals while unraveling a larger conspiracy.
Release Date: Dec 31 2012
That's about all we can say for sure right now. The game's official LucasArts website is now up and running, as is the Facebook page. A loose plot description is out that runs through everything described above, but here it is anyway for your reading pleasure:
Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world.
We first got wind of Star Wars 1313 in early May 2012 when Lucasfilm filed video game-related trademarks and domain registrations connected to the title. More will be revealed about the game next week at E3 2012.
This isn't the first time that LucasArts has zeroed in on bounty hunters as the focus of a Star Wars game. The 2002 GameCube and PlayStation 2 release Star Wars: Bounty Hunter put players in the boots and jetpack of Jango Fett in a story that explored the history of the man whose genetic material begat Boba Fett and an army of Imperial Stormtroopers. I'm guessing that 1313's scope will fall a little more outside the established canon and into Expanded Universe territory, but you never know.
