Marvel Studios will not produce any more Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, did the inability between Sony Pictures and Disney to reach new terms that would have given Disney co-financing stakes moving forward.
Now I know that sounds very technical, here is the real reason Spider-Man is not going to be in the MCU. Marvel wanted to renegotiate to receive 50% of the box office in exchange for the ability to produce the films. Sony decline the offer and said with the billion dollar success of Spider-Man Home Coming, the franchise is good.
The original deal was Marvel would not get any money from the solo films, and Marvel would not get any money from the MCU crossover films. Sony feels confident that it can stand alone without the all star cast of MCU, so that’s it for the avengers movies. Many fans thought with Ironman death that Spider-Man was next up to take over the franchise. Greed got the better of two companies, and we as fans will pay the price for it.
